On The Ground
C-suite hiring is up nearly 2x in September year over year, and the mix has shifted. We compared five weeks of On The Move from last fall (Sept 5 – Oct 3, 2025) with the same five weeks this year (Sept 4 – Oct 2, 2026). New C-suite appointments nearly doubled, from 51 to 97, across 81 companies.
The biggest gains:
- CFOs: 4 → 13 (3x)
- Chief Medical / Clinical Officers: 2 → 11 (5x)
- CROs, CCOs and CGOs : 8 → 16 (2x)
- COOs: 6 → 13 (2x)
Fewer Chief Strategy, Marketing, and Communications Officers were named than last year, and CTO hires held flat even as overall volume nearly doubled.
Where the hiring is happening matters too. Last fall, much of the action was at consumer and AI-native brands. This fall it’s concentrated in value-based care (Strive, Aledade, Evergreen Nephrology), pharmacy and PBM (Prime, Judi, SlateRx), and payment integrity and revenue cycle (Cotiviti, Zelis, CoverSelf). More companies are also filling several seats at once.
Our read: the market is rewarding operators who can deliver margin, clinical outcomes and revenue.
And if you’re curious what the compensation is for all these individuals, that’s where our Healthcare Executive Compensation Survey comes in, now in it’s 7th year.
